CARE Canada qualifies for new Standards Program for non-profit accountability

Nov 19, 2012

CARE Canada is pleased to announce that it is now accredited through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program for charities and non-profit organizations.

Launched in May 2012, this national program seeks to strengthen public confidence in the charitable and non-profit sector.

“We’re very proud to be a part of the Imagine Canada Standards Program, which is a fantastic initiative to provide Canadians with more accountability from the organizations they choose to support,” says Kevin McCort, President and CEO, CARE Canada. “CARE Canada’s accreditation is further proof of our commitment to openness and transparency.”

The Standards Program is one of the first-of-its-kind globally at a national level. To qualify, organizations must meet a strict set of standards outlined by Imagine Canada, a national umbrella organization that supports Canadian charities and non-profits. Accredited organizations must demonstrate excellence in five key areas:

  • Board governance;
  • Financial accountability and transparency;
  • Fundraising;
  • Staff management; and,
  • Volunteer involvement.

“Now, more than ever before, it is important for charities and non-profits to keep the hard-earned confidence and trust of the public,” says Marcel Lauzière, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “An organization that has been accredited through this program has demonstrated that it has put in place the policies, procedures and practices to make it a truly effective organization.”
