Women and girls' empowerment

I am Powerful: these are the words that represent CARE’s belief that we all have the power to change our world. Together, we are strong. We are resilient. We can make a difference.

While this message rings true within all of us, CARE's I am Powerful specifically focuses on the potential of women and girls living in poverty globally.

CARE's mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Through decades of experience in more than 70 countries, we've learned that the most effective way to do this is to empower women and girls.

Why focus on women and girls?

When a woman or girl is empowered, entire families and communities prosper. But when women and girls are not allowed to participate in the economic empowerment or dialogue of their society, half of the potential of that community is put to waste and half of its ideas are silenced.

CARE is bringing this I am Powerful message to Canadians and is challenging past notions that portray women and girls living in poverty as victims, rather than survivors. I Am Powerful is a true representation of the women and girls living in the developing world. It is about their strength, their resilience and their inherent power to fight poverty and effect positive change.
