THE SITUATION

The Central African Republic (CAR), one of the poorest countries in the world, is facing the worst humanitarian situation since its independence in 1960. In response to violence in the country, thousands of people have been forced to flee.

CARE’S RESPONSE

CARE is responding in Chad and Cameroon to help those who have fled the conflict in the Central African Republic.

Chad:

CARE will target at least 30,000 people  (refugees, returnees and host communities) providing access to water and sanitation, hygiene, reproductive health services, child protection as well as livelihoods activities.

Cameroon:

CARE’s emergency efforts will focus on food and livelihood assistance along with meeting health, water, hygiene and sanitation needs in the region where the majority of the displaced people have arrived.
