Walk In Her Shoes

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our 2017 Walk In Her Shoes Challenge! Events took place in March across the country in Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary and the Okanagan, raising over $350,000 for CARE’s vital work.

Stay tuned for details about our 2018 Challenge taking place in March 2018!

What is Walk In Her Shoes?

Women and girls in developing countries walk an average of 10,000 steps every day to collect the basics their families need to survive – water, food and firewood, often in dangerous circumstances and weather conditions. This leaves them little time to get an education or earn an income, locking them into a cycle of poverty.

Walk In Her Shoes is a global movement mobilizing thousands of CARE supporters around the world (including Canada, the UK, the USA and Australia) to walk in solidarity with women and girls in the developing world. It’s a personal challenge to walk 10,000 steps while collecting pledges and raising awareness of CARE’s vital work around the world.

This annual campaign engages individuals, corporations, schools and communities in educational, interactive and fun ways to become locally involved in international development.

The funds you raise through your walking challenge will help reduce the distance women and girls have to walk by providing clean water and nutritious food close to home and addressing inequalities between women and men and girls and boys so women and girls can spend more time in school, earn an income and help their community overcome poverty.
