Audio: CARE Burundi Women's Economic Empowerment Expert

The sixty-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from March 13-24, 2017.

Representatives from UN member states and international non-governmental agencies, including CARE, will gather to discuss issues related to the theme of women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work.

Nicedore Nkurunziza is a program manager for CARE International in Burundi, where she focuses on CARE's POWER Africa project, an acronym for Promoting Opportunities for Women's Economic Empowerment in Rural Africa.

Before heading to New York, she was in Ottawa where she met with Canadian officials and shared with CARE Canada her thoughts looking ahead to these important discussions.

What is your primary message for Canadian officials and those you are planning to meet in New York?

Why do you argue we should look to adolescent girls as a key area to focus our efforts?

Can you share the story of an adolescent girl you have met that inspires you?
