Three New Directors Join CARE Canada Board of Directors

[OTTAWA] CARE Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of three new directors to its Board.

Joining the Board are Paul Drager Q.C., Amy Jarek, and Sarosh Nanavati.

“CARE Canada has been fortunate to attract a Board of Directors that not only offer a diverse portfolio of skills and experience, but are motivated by our mission to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice,” says Gillian Barth, president and CEO of CARE Canada. “Our three new directors will further complement this team through their talent and desire to make a real difference in the world.”

Paul Drager Q.C. has served as Senior Partner of Norton Rose LLP and predecessor organizations since 1989. He was also the founder of the international expansion and head of international operations for MacLeod Dixon LLP. He will be returning to the Board where he previously served as chair for CARE Canada. He has also served as vice chair for CARE International. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 recognizing his contributions to the local, national, and international community through CARE.

Amy Jarek is an external affairs and sustainability expert who specializes in navigating the challenges businesses face when seeking to work more predictably in complex operating environments. She has over 20 years of experience building teams that effectively address social, political, environmental and compliance risks in various countries and cultures across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. She was selected as a 2012-13 International Women’s Forum Executive Leadership Fellow and has acted as a director of various nonprofit organizations.

Sarosh Nanavati joined Scheer Rowlett & Associates Investment Management in 2011 and is a portfolio manager with primary coverage responsibilities for the Basic Materials sector. He has worked in a variety of roles in the investment industry including positions with Capital Markets Advisory Services, Wellington West Capital Markets, UBS Global Asset Management, Sun Life of Canada, UBS Securities, and HSBC Canada.

While CARE welcomes its new members, the organization would also like to highlight the contribution of those who have left the board in the past year: Piers Cumberlege, Lorne Hepworth, Susan Smith and Janet Yale.

CARE Canada’s Board of Directors consists of respected Canadian leaders from diverse backgrounds from business, academia, politics and the public service. Board members are responsible for the financial and strategic oversight of the organization as well as its mission and mandate.
