Sophie Grégoire Trudeau to Join CARE Walk In Her Shoes Ottawa Event, Mar. 6
Mar 5, 2018
(OTTAWA) – Madame Sophie Grégoire Trudeau will help kick-off CARE Canada’s Walk In Her Shoes event on Parliament Hill, Tuesday, March 6.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, she will join more than 300 Ottawa residents to help raise awareness and critical funds towards CARE Canada’s efforts to promote gender equality and women’s rights.
Participants will do a symbolic walk in solidarity with women and girls in developing countries who must walk far distances each day to collect the basics their families need to survive —water, food and firewood. Because of this, many impoverished women and girls have little time to get an education or earn an income.
Funds raised from Walk In Her Shoes will support CARE Canada, an international humanitarian and development organization committed to fighting poverty and social injustice. Active in more than 90 countries worldwide, CARE places a special focus on women and girls as it believes we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.
When: Tuesday, March 6. Event starts at 11:30am, speeches at 11:50am, walk kicks off at 12:00pm with a short symbolic walk to City Hall. Lunch and activities will all wrap up by 1:00pm.
