CARE Canada joins the Humanitarian Coalition and its member agencies to welcome the Government of Canada’s decision to match donations by Canadians in response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development, announced today that individual donations to the Humanitarian Coalition and its 10 members will be matched from March 15 to April 14, to a maximum of $2 million.

As survivors struggle to recover from Cyclone Idai, people need shelter, food and clean water to prevent deadly disease outbreaks. CARE is a proud member of the Humanitarian Coalition. Together with Canadians’ support, we can save more lives,” said Gillian Barth, President and CEO, CARE Canada.
For every eligible dollar donated by individuals to the Humanitarian Coalition and its members to respond to the Cyclone Idai crisis between March 15, 2019 and April 14, 2019, the Government of Canada will provide the equivalent to the Humanitarian Coalition, up to a maximum of $2 million.
Global Affairs Canada will transfer the matching funds to the Humanitarian Coalition, which will in turn allocate the funds among its members based on criteria such as their capacity and presence in the affected region.
The Humanitarian Coalition brings together ten leading aid organizations to provide Canadians with a simple and effective way to help during large-scale humanitarian emergencies.
CARE Canada joins the following agencies as part of the Humanitarian Coalition: Action Against Hunger, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, Humanity & Inclusion, Islamic Relief Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam-Québec, Plan International Canada, Save the Children.
