JAKARTA, 30 August 2019—Today, CARE celebrates the grand opening of Yayasan CARE Peduli in Indonesia as CARE International in Indonesia officially handed over operations in Indonesia to Yayasan CARE Peduli (YCP).

CARE Canada has supported CARE International in Indonesia’s efforts to transition to become a national entity and join the CARE Confederation as a full member. YCP was established in 2018 to facilitate this transition.

CARE International in Indonesia has been assisted by CARE Canada in program development and implementation since 1986. CARE Canada will continue to offer support to YCP throughout the transition process and beyond.

The official handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Home Affairs in Indonesia, YCP Board Members Mr. Teuku Faizasyah and Ms. Vivien Kusumowardhani, and Mr. Ken Sunquist, Board of Directors Chair for CARE Canada.

“This is an auspicious occasion – to celebrate the closure of CARE International in Indonesia’s successful operations which is also marked with the birth of the Yayasan CARE Peduli to continue and expand CARE’s mission in the country,” said Ken Sunquist, Chair of the Board of Directors for CARE Canada.

“CARE Canada remains committed to supporting the transition process and to supporting Yayasan CARE Peduli as equal partners in our shared mission to serve humanitarian and development needs. We are confident that as a national entity, Yayasan CARE Peduli will play an even more important strategic role and contribute meaningfully towards national development priorities.”

CARE has operated in Indonesia since 1967 and has worked closely with stakeholders across the country to deliver services and assistance to those in need. CARE’s work in Indonesia focuses on: disaster risk management (disaster risk reduction and emergency response); natural resource and climate change management; health and nutrition; economic empowerment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; and the rights of women and girls.
