PROSADE (Promoting Food Security in Choluteca and Rio Negro Watersheds)

CARE’s PROSADE ( Promoting Food Security in Choluteca and Rio Negro Watersheds) project in southern Honduras seeks to expand local food production, guarantee access to safe and reliable water, and promote good sanitation and hygiene practices.

The situation

Access to food is extremely limited in southern Honduras due to extreme levels of poverty, low agricultural productivity, reduced employment opportunities and difficulties importing food, which is only worsened by global economic uncertainty and high food prices.

Goals

  • Introduce a variety of new drought- and disease-resistant seeds.
  • Educate farmers and community members about improved planting and water harvesting techniques to improve lives and reduce future risk to drought.
  • Reduce vulnerability to food shortages and disasters for women, men, youth and elderly citizens in southern Honduras.

Supporters

This project is undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through Global Affairs Canada.
