One Woman Can

Join us and invest in women around the world as they build a better future for all.

One woman. Infinite impact.

It’s a bold statement—but here’s why we’re standing by it. Around the world, women do not have the same access to resources and opportunities as men. This means that half of humanity cannot reach their full potential. The cost? 172 trillion dollars, according to the World Bank.

That number is overwhelming—but the gender gap has very real consequences for women, their families and communities around the world. Consequences like poverty, hunger, gender-based violence and early and forced marriage.

But there is hope.

One woman can make a difference. One woman can change her life. One woman can change the future for her children and her children’s children. One woman can transform her entire community and light the path for many.

When one woman can access the resources and opportunities she deserves, she can pull not only herself, but others around her, out of poverty and crisis—breaking the cycle for future generations.

Export Development Canada (EDC) logoJoin us throughout March and invest in women around the world! Thanks to the generosity of Export Development Canada, all gifts made in March will be MATCHED up to $25,000, multiplying the impact of your support!

When one woman can earn and save her money, she creates a ripple effect that benefits her family, her community, and future generations. Everyone is then better equipped to break the cycle of poverty, to be resilient in the face of crises, and to build a better, more equal world for all.

CARE’s Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) have been changing women’s lives for more than 30 years now. Designed to help women access basic financial services they would otherwise be denied, VSLAs have empowered generations of women to break the cycle of poverty.

A Black woman stands in front of a building smiling brightly.

“Through my savings group, I took out a loan to buy a food processing machine. Now I run my own business selling processed fufu, a Ghanaian staple. After a few months, I was able to purchase my daughter’s books and enroll her back in school. Now my husband consults me before making decisions.”
