Recently I returned from my first trip to visit CARE projects in Africa since I became President and CEO of CARE Canada in April 2020. It was a wonderful and inspiring visit to Zambia and Morocco, meeting incredible people and learning how CARE and our partners are supporting women’s leadership.
The next generation of entrepreneurs
These are Niger’s future entrepreneurs, teachers, and doctors. Those who will build the country and dream up new ideas. Those who will work for equal rights and opportunities for all.
The group meets every week after school. They get together to save money and have created their own little bank. Everyone saves what they can, and those who need it can borrow money to test out their own business ideas.
Five minute inspiration: CARE savings groups in the post COVID world
Movement restrictions, economic crisis, plummeting incomes, the inability to get together in groups. These are all challenges that could make a savings group fail post-COVID-19. They could make it impossible to move forward. That’s not what’s happening.
