AMMAN/OTTAWA, September 10, 2019 – CARE Canada Ambassador Annie Murphy travelled to Jordan this week to shine a light on the issues women, girls, and Syrian refugees are facing and to learn what CARE is doing to help.
During her visit to Jordan, Annie Murphy toured CARE’s East Amman Centre to learn about CARE’s Urban Protection Response program, met with women entrepreneurs, and finally visited Azraq Refugee Camp.
CARE manages all four community centres in Azraq which receive 500 to 700 refugees each day. Through the community centres, CARE provides recreational and psychosocial support activities, livelihood support, vocational training, and cash assistance and referrals.
While touring Azraq, home to more than 35,000 Syrian refugees, Annie Murphy met with three sisters Asma, Rayan, and Zeinab who shared their hopes and dreams for the future with Annie.
Asma (17) was the first girl to ride a bicycle in Azraq. After participating in CARE-supported classes, Rayan (14) hopes to become a Taekwondo coach when she grows up.
“These girls are kind, generous, fun, welcoming, and brimming full of hope for their futures, which they deserve to be the absolute brightest,” said CARE Canada Ambassador Annie Murphy.
