OTTAWA, 5 December 2019 – CARE Canada was pleased by the emphasis on Canada’s role in supporting international efforts to fight climate change, promote gender equality and uphold human rights – including for the world’s poorest people – in today’s Speech from the Throne.
The Throne Speech recognizes that Canadians and people round the world are calling out for more ambitious, collaborative and equitable solutions to the multiple crises confronting humanity. CARE Canada believes that Canada’s leadership is needed today as much as ever to strengthen and inspire global efforts to assist those impacted by climate change, conflict, natural disaster, and forced displacement – and to get the world on track to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
We look forward to working with the Government of Canada and all parliamentarians to ensure these commitments are upheld in Budget 2020 and Canada’s next climate finance package, and through the implementation of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.
